Gritty's story
Gritty is a Pointer/Pit Bull Terrier mix, male, 3 years of age.
Gritty is an amiable, very social and outgoing, entirely warm-hearted dog who absolutely and genuinely loves people. Happy, vibrant, and extremely sweet-natured, this endearing canine greets all with welcoming ear-to-ear smile and enthusiastically wagging tail (wiggle-butt). Not a dog for a family who expects him to spend long periods of time alone, Gritty thrives on human companionship, and hell simply languish without it. Readily sharing his love with kisses upon invitation (and sometimes on his own), he loves to snuggle and be close to his people. Looking to be a much-loved, included family member, Grittys a sensitive, gentle, wholly sincere dog who needs a home with responsible, caring owners willing to provide consistent leadership and meet his exercise and companionship needs.
Fawningly adoring and faithfully devoted, a mild-mannered, affectionate little charmer who will steal your heart before you even realize it with his animated expressions and sweet, soulful eyes, Gritty will bond quickly and deeply with his family members. Also an intelligent, high-functioning canine who is quick to please when he knows what is expected of him, he is an active, athletic, inquisitive, and lively young dog who needs plenty of mental stimulation and physical activity to stay happy, healthy, and well-behaved. Meeting his exercise needs is simple and straight-forward though

provide him with regular leashed walks, lots of opportunities to participate in interactive outdoor activities, and include him in family activities and outings

thats, pretty much, all there is to it.
Currently working on his leash manners with his foster family (and doing very well), Gritty will enjoy and benefit from training and socialization classes; this will also be an excellent way for his new family members to bond with him as well as to meet some of his exercise needs and reinforce good canine manners. No doubt, Gritty will excel in obedience training as well as just about anything else he does.
Gritty is best suited as an indoor pet and companion for a home with a moderately-active lifestyle and without cats. He currently lives in a foster home with another dog who he gets along very well with. A well-mannered total-package, outstanding family canine, Gritty has shown himself to be comfortable around children of all ages, and hell do well in just about any home where children and pets alike are taught to respect boundaries and interaction is monitored as it should be.
Gritty was a stray taken in by good Samaritans who believed the dog injured as he had some hindquarter-hind leg weakness

we were able to have Gritty seen and treated by our veterinarian prior to him being taken to MCAC so he could complete his stray hold

exam and x-rays showed no bone/structural trauma/damage but rather ligament/tendon injury which required anti-inflammatories/pain meds (which went with him to ac) and cage rest. Unfortunately, while at animal control Gritty received additional injuries

happy tail and superficial cuts and abrasions to his legs, chest, and groin

which required another vet visit and treatment with anti-biotics as well as his needing treatment for Giardia, Hookworm, and malnourishment.
Monroe SPCA secured a foster home for Gritty and rescued him from animal control as soon as his stray hold was up.
As with all Monroe SPCA adoptable dogs, a meet-n-greet and home visit will be required with all housemate pets prior to adoption.
